Salem will play host to a Festivus 5K next month.
Race organizers of the new Festivus 5K, which is sponsored by North Shore Road Race Guide, are inviting local runners to check out the race course this weekend during a special group run.
Runners interested in participating in the group fun run are encouraged to meet outside of Jaho Coffee at 8:30 a.m., Saturday.
To RSVP for the group run, send an email to Rick Johnson.
And for the main event - of course - costumes are encouraged.
According to the organizer's website, all net proceeds from the race will be donated to The Autism Society and the first male and first female overall will each receive a Festivus pole.
No word yet on how they will work in the all-important airing of grievances.

I am thrilled that more and more charitable races are happening in Salem. This is a great addition to the great community we live in.
