7 Ways to Celebrate The Season(al)

Salem foodies mark a sure sign of spring.

Tomorrow, no matter what the weather brings, the seasonal restaurants of Salem and their dedicated fans will mark the return of .

After a political winter filled with , these celebrations will be particularly sweet.

One business has been celebrating this day for three decades, while the remainder have joined the festivities over the last five years.

  • : The Queen of Salem's seasonal eateries has been in business since 1981. Diane and Lee Wolf are introducing a new chef and a new menu. Lobster pierogis, lobster over polenta and a fishermen's stew using daily available seafood will be featured. The Shanty will open at noon with entertainment starting at 8 p.m. House band, VEIN, will be featured.
  • One of the newer places in town, Polonia will open at 11 a.m. while 8 p.m. marks the start of the featuring complimentary hors d'oeuvres and the music of Clay Ventre and the Bond Girls. A variety of sangrias are available this year, and the business will also feature a Sunday Brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • : The "howling" to celebrate the second season will begin at 11:30 a.m. Festivities rev up at 8:30 p.m. with free Mexican food and buffalo wings. On tap will be products from Ipswich Brewing and Peak Organic Brewery. Local blues singer Lee Hawkins will perform beginning at 8:30 p.m. There will also be Red Sox and Revolution tickets available in a raffle.
  • : Also marking a second season, Seaport opens at 11:30 a.m. Seaport is the exclusive Salem source of the Belgian brew Hennepin. A new addition to the menu will be an herb roasted half-chicken. At 8 p.m. you can settle in and listen as the very talented and well-known Erinn Brown Band does its thing.
  • : Celebrate the repeal of Prohibition with the hardened rum runners on . 62 opens its doors at 5 p.m. with old school cocktails and complimentary hors d' oeuvres. Dinner reservations are recommended.
  • : For the first time since January 15, Coven will be able to offer you a fine wine with your salad or a cold beer with your lunch. Stop in for fresh-made sandwiches or desserts and wish Rob and Jen a successful spring/summer 2011.
  • Lakay Island: Though the liquor license hasn't come back from the State House, that is no reason not to stop in and visit Salem's newest full-service restaurant. Experience the Caribbean in the middle of the City. Jerk chicken, boulette, and beef tassot are on the menu along with some standard American fare.
