5 Things (And Another Council Vote) Jan. 7
Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.
Today is Monday, Jan. 7, and here are the five things you need to know:
1. It should be a beautiful day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect a chance of snow showers before 8 a.m. and for it to be mostly sunny, with a high near 35. Tonight should be mostly clear, with a low around 29. (sunrise, 7:13 a.m.; low tide, 12:43 p.m.; sunset, 4:27 p.m.; high tide, 6:55 p.m.)
2. The Salem City Council will meet tonight at City Hall. This will be the first time the group has met since Thursday night, when councilors failed to select a replacement for Joan Lovely despite voting 300 times. Click Here for more information about the meeting, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
3. Salem High School's boys' varsity basketball team will host Beverly tonight at the high school on Willson Street. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., so consider stopping by to cheer them on!
5. Today in History: On Jan. 7, 1980 President Jimmy Carter authorized legislation giving $1.5 billion in loans to bail out the Chrysler Corporation.
