5 Things (And a Rollover): Dec. 3

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.

Today is Monday, Dec. 3, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. It should be a beautiful day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Tonight should be mostly clear, with a low around 39. (sunrise, 6:56 a.m.; low tide, 7:47 a.m.; high tide, 1:59 p.m.; sunset, 4:10 p.m.)

2. Local residents took to Facebook Sunday to share their feelings about the recent passing of Lucy the Cat, who was a well-known and much-loved fixture at the Barking Cat Pet Emporium on Essex Street. Click Here for our full story.

3. Loring Avenue was closed to traffic late Sunday night following a single-vehicle rollover accident that snapped a utility pole in half and left wires hanging across the roadway. Click Here to see a video we shot from the scene of the crash, which didn't result in any injuries.

4. The Salem Licensing Board will meet tonight at City Hall. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Click Here for a look at the posted agenda.

5. Today in History: On Dec. 3, 1976, an assassination attempt was made on Bob Marley. He was shot twice, but played in a concert two days later.
