Plenty of Salem restaurants are preparing for some Giant(s) revenge this Sunday.
If you're still looking for a place to cheer for your favorite team, take a look at these five Salem locales.
Super Bowl Victoria-Shanty Party
Vic's Station General Manager/Chef John Andrews has plenty planned for the
Shantastic Super Bowl Shindig — a party he's putting together with the help of friend Diane Wolf and the crew at the Lobster Shanty, which is currently closed for the season.
According to Andrews, there "is a history behind" the duel Shanty/Victoria's Station Superbowl stories, and the event is a great way to try Vic's out as a sports bar.
On the menu are 25-cent wings and the "Tom Brady Trifecta of Onion Rings," Andrews said, adding that he read onion rings are Brady's favorite food.
Andrews said the Shanty crew is also designing a T-shirt for the even and squares for prizes will be played during halftime.
As for viewing, "every angle will be covered," Andrews said.
Vic's Station recommends that those interested come by at approximately 6 p.m.
Seaport Cafe
- At the Seaport Cafe, the tailgate begins at 3 p.m. with lots of blues. The "Sunday Funday" will kick off festivities with Chris Fitz, Steven Peabody and Joe Mack from 3 to 6 p.m. After that, it's game on with specials and plenty of company as you cheer on the home team.
Tavern in the Square
- The Tavern has been on the game since the very beginning. These guys have been counting down to our Giant(s) revenge since we snagged the AFC Championship. Interested in catching the game at Tavern in the Square with televisions everywhere in sight? We recommend staking out your seat of choice early.
Green Land Cafe
- Okay, fine, so you don't normally think of this Salem location at the go-to spot when it comes to catching the game. But, word on the street is they'll have the game on and the volume up, so you're sure to hear what's going on. Green Land Cafe will have a "Happytizer Menu" form 4 to 10 p.m. in addition to its regular menu, for a special discounted price. Check the business Facebook page for more.

I know they always close for the winter but they still used to have their own Super Bowl parties. I thought with the Pats in the Super Bowl they would do it again this year.

The Shanty Super Bowl part tradition ended five years ago when a neighboring business called the police and complained that it was having a negative impact on their business.

I'm curious to know the details behind this. Was the complaining business, another restaurant, perhaps?
If the party at the Shanty was "excessively" loud, then I could understand the police asking them to turn the volume down. But I don't see why the Shanty should have been forced to end that party tradition, just because another business claimed a "negative impact".

I think I remember now. Wasn't it because the Shanty only has a seasonal license or something and the license was not in effect but they opened anyway?

Simple explanation. The Shanty has no liquor license after 15 Jan until it opens 1 Apr. Beginning in 2002 we held a SB party, but sold no liquor. We served any beer/wine left over from the season free and also cooked up leftover foods. Customers/guests also brought potluck dishes.
All went well until the last NE Pats/NJ Giants SB when we were shut down by the PD after a neighboring business complained. Noise or behavior issues were not the cause, just the lack of an active liquor license. Since we sold no alcohol we insisted that a license was not required. The licensing board ruled otherwise saying we needed a license whether customers payed or not.
