5 Arrested for Drinking Smirnoff Ice, Other Booze in Public
The following was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Wednesday and Thursday.
Wednesday, May 30
5:29 p.m. — Police responded to a call about undesirables camped out in the cemetery on High Street. Police were not able to locate anyone.
5:51 p.m. — Police arrested Michael Worthley and Domingo Madera (see below) for trespassing at a property on Washington Street. Police said they have received many calls about people on the property engaging in illicit activity.
6:15 p.m. — Police said a man was placed under arrest after he was seen drinking a 40-ounce bottle of Milwaukee's Best Premium Beer at the bus stop on Derby Street.
6:31 p.m. — Fumes from a paint shop going into a house were reported on Ocean Avenue.
6:27 p.m. — Possible drug activity and kids being loud were reported on Cloutman Street. Police said they spoke with a kid who was in the yard playing a video game with a friend. Police told them they would have to keep their voices and the volume of the television down. The kids told police they smoked marijuana earlier in the day but they didn't have any more left.
7:10 p.m. — Two men harassing people for money was reported on Bridge Street.
7:22 p.m. — Two people yelling at pedestrians were reported at Essex and Washington streets. Police spoke with two people who were sitting on the fountain wall. The two men told police they were just hanging out and saying "hi" to people who were walking by. Both said they were just being friendly. Police asked the men to move along.
7:45 p.m. — Three men on a roof and "walking…in an unsafe manner" were reported on Washington Street. Police said the roof was safe and the men were just replacing and air conditioning unit.
8:04 p.m. — Larceny of mulch from the park was reported on Warner Street. Police said an anonymous neighbor reported a person took city owned mulch from the Collins Cove Playground to spread in their own backyard playground. The officer checked both locations and found the mulch to be similar. Police said they spoke with the resident who said her nephew had brought her mulch for her children's playground earlier, but she didn't know where it came from. The amount was small, police said, and the woman told the officer the mulch would be returned ASAP. Police said the woman was advised of the potential charges that she would incur if city-owned property is taken in the future.
8:55 p.m. — Timothy Gay (see below) was arrested after police said he was found drinking a pint of Smirnoff Ice on the Boardwalk.
9 p.m. — Vandalism to a vehicle was reported on Story Street.
9:19 p.m. — Larceny from an apartment was reported on Washington Street.
10:24 p.m. — Harassment was reported on Federal Street. A woman said another woman gave her and her family "dirty looks."
Michael Lawre Worthley, 51, of 250 Washington St. was arrested on a trespassing charge.
Alisha M. Tobin, 17, who is listed as homeless, was arrested on a warrant.
Ronald Henry Talbot, 55, of 29 Hancock St. was arrested on a charge of violating the city's public drinking ordinance.
Domingo A. Madera, 70, who is listed as homeless was arrested on a trespassing charge.
Timothy Thaddius Gay, 46, who is listed as homeless was arrested on a charge of violating the city's public drinking ordinance.
Thursday, May 31
12:20 a.m. — A large pothole was reported on Bridge Street.
12:21 a.m. — A man yelling was reported on Lynde Street.
1:52 a.m. — Kids possibly shooting BB guns were reported on Congress Street. Police said there was no gun and the kids were advised to keep the noise down.
4:08 a.m. — Police arrested Joseph Fiandaca (see below) after they were called about a man breaking into vehicles near Dearborn and Walter streets.
8:46 a.m. — A juvenile escapee prisoner was reported on Federal Street. Police said the escape happening while the person was being transported from a non-secure facility to juvenile court. "Almost all Salem Police units were involved in the search," police said. The suspect was found at Essex and Crombie streets after a 10-minutes search and will be charged with disorderly conduct, police said.
12:18 p.m. — Police made more public drinking arrests, this time at North and Commercial streets.
1 p.m. — A break-in to a vehicle was reported outside Planet Fitness. A woman reported someone smashed a window and stole her purse.
2:34 p.m. — Police said four to six guitars were reported stolen in a Lyme Street house break-in.
2:46 p.m. — A person was arrested for drinking a bottle of Ruble Vodka on Klop Alley.
James Manuel Silva, 44, who is listed as homeless was arrested on a warrant.
Jean Marie Salois, 47, who is listed as homeless was arrested on a charge of violating the city's public drinking ordinance.
Justin S. Lopes, 24, of 18 Leach St. was arrested on a charge of disturbing the peace.
Robert S. Hogan, 45, who is listed as homeless was arrested on a charge of violating the city's public drinking ordinance.
Nathan A. Harrington, 35, of 19 Davis Road in Beverly, was arrested on two warrants.
Madison A. Fuher, 21, of 18 Leach St. was arrested on a charge of disturbing the peace.
Joseph Thomas Fiandaca, 21, who is listed as homeless, was arrested on a warrant. He was also arrested on eight charges of breaking and entering at night with intent to commit a crime and malicious destruction of property over $250.
Mark Lawrence Edmunds, 21, of 18 Leach St. was arrested on a charges of disturbing the peace.
Eric O'Brien Cripps, 25, of 188 Ocean Ave. was arrested on a charge of disturbing the peace.
Michael Lawre Worthley, 51, of 250 Washington St. was arrested on a charge of violating the city's public drinking ordinance.
